Unwanted Horse Coalition Launches Operation Gelding Program
The Unwanted Horse Coalition [UHC] has initiated Operation Gelding. The new UHC program will provide funds and materials to assist organizations, associations and events that wish to sponsor clinics to which horse owners can bring their stallions to be castrated. A number of associations have sponsored such clinics and the UHC wants to help more organizations, associations and events get involved in this effort.

Unwanted Horse Coalition Materials Available
The Unwanted Horse Coalition (UHC) continues its efforts to educate the industry about the issues relating to unwanted horses and owning responsibly. The UHC has prepared and distributed a variety of materials that will educate horse owners on various topics. The materials describe the efforts of the coalition, offer alternatives for horse owners to consider for their horses when they can no longer care for them, and detail ways the horse community can get more involved. With the number of unwanted horses increasing, the industry and horse owners must step up their efforts to educate themselves about potential solutions. The materials suggest options an individual or an organization can take so that the number of unwanted horses does not increase.

Low or No Cost Castration Effort Under Way in Missouri
An equine veterinarian at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) plans to host a low- or no-cost castration clinic this fall at the University of Missouri, in an effort to address the unwanted horse issue.

Thoroughbred Mare Finds Her Way Home
Many Things, and sometimes Thoroughbreds, come full circle in life. Such is the case with Tie Run, who at age 27 made a circuitous way back to her breeder, Roy Lerman. The last time Lerman, who bred, owned, and trained Tie Run, had seen the mare was in 1988 when she was claimed off him at Philadelphia Park. Now thanks to some good luck and goodwill, Tie Run will live out the rest of her life at Lerman’s Lambholm South in Reddick, Florida.

Arabian Horse Association Announces 2010 Grants
The Arabian Horse Foundation (AHF) has announced it awarded $15,000 in grants and youth scholarships this year. Since the Foundation was re-launched three years ago, the nonprofit entity, which is the philanthropic arm of the Arabian Horse Association (AHA), has given over $75,000 in grants and scholarships. The AHF recently awarded $5,000 in Scholarships, $5,000 to Rescue and Rehoming of horses, and $5,000 to Equine Research.

Horse Retirement Awareness Day - NYRA Makes Progress for Retired Thoroughbreds
August 18th, 2010 at Saratoga Race Course is Thoroughbred Retirement Day. The New York Racing Association has scheduled a variety of activities and will donate $5,000 each to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, Old Friends, and the Exceller Fund. Various rescue organizations will be on the track handing out informational flyers and collecting donations near the jockeys’ silks room.

Stacey Hindt posted a wonderful update on Arrrrr's Facebook page July 21st. She has decided to start paperwork for an equine rescue operation. The rescue will be named Arrrrr Equine Rescue, after none other than Arrrrr.
